2. WHY DEFENSE IS REWARDED
Traditional chess rates a draw the same whether you defended a desperate -2.50 position for 40 moves or shook hands on move 12. Here every game has an expected score that accounts for the starting position, and your rating moves by how far you beat it:
When you were expected to lose, a draw beats the expectation and gains rating, and the side that failed to convert loses the same.
Winning when you were expected to lose beats the expectation by the most, so it pays more than an ordinary win, and more again against a stronger opponent. No caps.
